Travel with GALA to Advocacy Day in Austin
Updated: Dec 29, 2019
March 20th is All In For Equality Advocacy Day in Austin. GALA is partnering with organizations* across DFW to charter buses so that North Texas LGBTQA voices will be heard at the state capital.
The Texas Legislature is in session every other year for 140 calendar days. It is expected that there will be 100+ anti-LGBT laws proposed in Austin during the 2017 session.
This is not a protest. This is an opportunity to sit down with your elected officials in their offices at the Capitol and share with them concerns about anti-LGBTQ legislation up for a vote.
No experience is necessary. We will provide training and you will be assigned to a group with an experienced leader.
We are mobilizing you to be a voice for equality. We've chartered seven motor coaches leaving from West Plano and Dallas for the day trip. Buses will be departing at 7 AM from Cinemark West Plano (Parker & Tollway) and at 7:30 AM from Cathedral of Hope (Cedar Springs @ Inwood Rd). As we travel to Austin, you'll receive education on LGBT advocacy and enjoy breakfast. Upon arriving in Austin we'll gather with other LGBT advocates from across Texas, form groups, and visit the offices of our state representatives.
On the trip home we will celebrate our efforts and have snacks on the bus. You'll be back in DFW by 7 PM.
Don't miss this important and empowering event. We request a nominal registration fee of $15 to partially cover costs but nobody will be turned away for inability to pay. Email email@example.com for financial consideration.
*Partner organizations: GALA North Texas, Human Rights Campaign, Cathedral of Hope, Coalition for Aging LGBT, Stonewall Democrats, ACLU Texas, Texas Freedom Network, Transgender Education Network of Texas, LULAC 4871, Resource Center, Lambda Legal, and Equality Texas.
